The Origin of School Symbol




This Symbol is made up of four antlers combined after our land "ku-te-ku-u-shi" in Ainulanuage, which intelligence, diligence, positiveness, and study.




History of Shikaoi High School

April 1st, 1950

 

It was founded as a branch school Hokkaido Shimizu High School. (Part-time Night School, General Course)

November 1st, 1952

 

It became independent as Hokkaido Shikaoi Senior High School.

April 1st, 1962

 

It advertised for students as Season-time Day High Shool.

April 30th, 1966

 

This is the present place where a new school building was built.

November 25th, 1976

 

It changed into a full-time high school. The new school building (special classroom) was completed.

April 1st, 1978

 

It was moved to Hokkaido government control.

January 6th, 1997

 

1st Short Canada Visit Project held by the Town of Shikaoi

February 12th, 1999

 

The commendation for Educational practice in Tokachi District was won.

Unique Education

International Understanding Education

(1) Study of Foreign Countries

  • Each grade studies one coutry through its geography, history, and culture.

  • Group presentaion of their studies

  • Lectures from foreign exchange students and adults.

  • (2) International Education Lecture Meeting for All Students

    In connection with international studies, lectures are presented to all students. Speakers chosen for their various contributions to society are invited to share their ideas with the students.

    (3) Study of Hometown (Regional Inspection)

    All 2nd and 3rd grade students will study their regional community. In 2nd Grade : Students will experience making Soba, ice cream, sausage, riding horse and park golf. In 3rd Grade : Students will focus on regional problems. Their studies will include field research, studying on location areas at question. This last year, students researched environmental problems at Shihoro Heights Road and Nukabira dam.

    (4) Canada Visit (1st grade)

    Every year, the Town of Shikaoi send their high school first grade students to Town of Stony Plain in Canada.This experience fosters both personal and academic growth.

    (5) Canadian Exchange Student Visit

    Every year, a group of students and teachers from Memorial Composite high school in Stony Plain visit Shikaoi high school. Here the Canadian group may experience Japanese school life, by attending classes and the school festival.

    Information Education

    In the Imforamation Processing and Word Processing class students search and collect information through the Internet. They will learn practical skills to be able to operate computers in the future.

    Team Teaching

    Shikaoi high school has Assistant English Teacher (AET). The Shikaoi Board of Education hire 2 AETs from Canada. One AET is permanent stuff member of Shikaoi high school. Also, once in a week we have another AET from Tokachi Board of Education. So thereare 3 or 4 teachers in some English classes.

    Different Levels of Study

    Shikaoi high school provides 3 levels (advanced, middle & basic) in both Math and English. Students are divided into a level appropriate to their ability.

    Life-long Sports

    This is one of our optional classes providing more opportunity to study life-long sports. Here, students practice horse riding at the "Riding park" located in Shikaoi may later join the riding competition in the fall. "Park Golf", a unique regional sport, is another activity introduced to students.
